Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Yonkers is an Associate Professor at the Yale School of Medicine where she directs the PMS and Perinatal Depression Research Program. She holds appointments in the Departments of Psychiatry (Primary), Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, and in the School of Epidemiology and Public Health. She has longstanding interests in the clinical course, biological underpinnings and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders as they occur in women. This has included investigations into sex differences in illness expression and treatment and the identification, treatment and causes of disorders only occurring in women, such as premenstrual dysphoric disorder. A related interest has been the care of women who suffer from psychiatric illness during pregnancy and the postpartum period. She has been actively exploring behavioral treatments that may help pregnant women decrease or stop using hazardous substance use. She is also currently researching the possible impact of depressive disorders, or their treatment, on perinatal outcomes.
