Member-to-Member ListServ

Using the Member-to-Member Listserv

Welcome

The primary purpose of the Member-to-Member list is to foster and facilitate productive communication among and between members of the APA, as authorized by the Board of Trustees.

Our mission is to join together psychiatrists, who, while separated geographically, are united in their enthusiasm for communicating ideas and concepts to enhance and develop psychiatry and the APA.

This list will contribute to psychiatry by:

  • Covering a wide range of topics that are of use to members.

  • Providing members with up to date information from the APA Central Office and similarly, from any District Branch or Area.

  • Encouraging a lively debate on the full range of ethical, diagnostic, treatment, research, and philosophical issues in which psychiatrists have interests.

The Member-to-Member Listserv is run automatically by list management software called Majordomo. This document has been compiled to help you use Majordomo and gain the maximum benefit of the Member-to Member Listserv.

List Etiquette

"Etiquette" means "ticket" in French. On the Internet, "netiquette" is your ticket to "traveling" without annoying others.

Electronic mail messages can be informal, but thought should be given before they are sent. Don't send a message until you have taken time to review its contents and header. Make sure your message is correctly addressed, that it is free of typos, and that you really mean what it says. Try to be both clear and concise.

When replying to a message, only quote the portions that are absolutely necessary to help the reader and delete the rest.

Be careful to send listserv commands to the right e-mail address (majordomo@lists.psych.org). Do NOT post subscribe/unsubscribe/digest requests to the list (mem2mem@lists.psych.org).

Lots of communication to other people on the list can be accomplished through personal e-mail. Don't reply to the list unless you think your mail would be helpful and of interest to the majority.

If you ask a QUESTION to the list, please provide a SUMMARY post to share what you have learned with other members.

Include the http:// part of the URL in your e-mail messages about sites for the convenience of readers with smart mail applications.
Example: http://www.psych.org instead of psych.org
