The Use of Buprenorphine in the Treatment of Prescription Opioid Dependence

This webinar reviews the results of the Prescription Opioid Addiction Treatment Study (POATS), the first large-scale treatment study for patients dependent upon prescription opioids.

POATS, which was conducted under the auspices of the National Institute on Drug Abuse Clinical Trials Network, studied combinations of different lengths of buprenorphine and different intensities of counseling to treat 653 patients dependent upon prescription opioids.

the design of the study,
the main outcomes, and
the role of chronic pain and a history of heroin use as prognostic factors
