Managing Your Practice
The APA’s Office of Healthcare Systems and Financing (OHSF) provides a wide variety of practical assistance to APA members on day-to-day practice management issues encountered by psychiatrists: reimbursement, relationships with managed care companies, coding, documentation, Medicare, Medicaid, establishing a private practice and closing a practice, among others.
Members are able to access OHSF assistance by calling the HelpLine at 800-343-4671, sending an email to hsf@psych.org, or downloading the online documents available in "Inside this Section."
For Medicare Part D issues, send an email to PartD@psych.org or call the HelpLine at 800-343-4671.
OF NOTE:
Effective September 23, 2009 new regulations require all physicians who are covered by HIPAA to notify patients if there are breaches of security involving their medical information. Read AMA's What You Need to Know About the New HIPAA Breach Notification Rule for a summary of these new requirements.
Deadline extended: June 1, 2010, is the new deadline for compliance with the Red Flags Rule. This rule requires creditors to institute policies to identify, detect and respond to potential risks of identity theft. Visit AMA's Practice Management Center and FTC’s Red Flags for additional information.
